Emma Backer (she/her) is a photographic artist originally from Pittsburgh, PA, now based in New York City. Her passion for photography began at a young age during summer camp and has only grown stronger over the years. Emma holds a BFA in Fine Art Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Her artistic practice focuses on alternative and experimental photographic processes, which she uses to explore themes of chronic pain, mental health, and environmental anxiety. In recent projects, she has pushed the boundaries of analog photography to reflect her personal experiences, including the physical and emotional impact of living with migraines. Emma’s work has been exhibited both across the United States and internationally.
