Landscape as Nostalgia
I am fascinated by the way in which we connect to landscapes, and how these connections often evoke feelings of nostalgia and longing for a simpler time. Through the unlikely pairing of cyanotypes and doilies, my series of landscapes explores this theme. The doilies, an object that is often passed down through families as heirlooms, encourages viewers to reflect on their own connections to the landscape around them and the ways in which these connections shape our memories. The cyanotype printing process produces a deep blue color, reminiscent of the sea or sky that imbues the images with a dreamlike, ethereal quality.
Whether we live in bustling cities or rural landscapes, we all have a deep-rooted connection to the natural world, and my hope is that my images will inspire viewers to explore this connection and the emotions that it evokes.
